a quick stop at the market hall corrects our cowboy hat deficiency :) and then it's off to the horse pull where this my 'colt and filly' team pulls a respectable 150 lbs

then it's time for the stallion and colt - and they make that days best weight pull! 382 lbs

and win a case of drinking boxes.
no joke. 40 of them.
on our last day in town.
~ sigh ~
that tiny rental car of ours can't handle our winfall,
so we leave the coupon at the townhouse for a future guest.
in a midway with overpriced junk food everywhere we look, we were impressed to find a booth selling cookies and milk for a dollar. yum. and cheap. so double yum
bosco gets chosen to demonstrate how they make rope and gets his very own souvenir from the rodeo
we see the aboriginal village, watch some shows, pig out on junk food...
fierce gets chosen to be an a balloon show, and rob struts his stuff at a soccer demo. but these stills don't do justice. he had done a dozen push-ups with the ball on his back before his competitor even managed to keep his ball on his back for one (brag, brag)
there was a trampoline show
what a great day!
but it's not over yet, there's still the grandstand show, the chuck wagon races and the fireworks. so, along with the crowds, we head to the stadium
we like our seats. (we'd better at $300!)
it gets cold when the sun sets; we're happy when the warmth of the pyrotechnics hits us
the stampede band parades right past us
but to be honest, this whole night bewilders us.
teams of horses running around barrels, motorcycles arriving to just say hi and everyone screaming (?!),
an over-the-top corny cirque-de-soleil type show going on and on about the world of i.m.a.g.i.n.a.t.i.o.n., (all the while desperately trying to incorporate horses in the show), little kids up way too late - with stage make-up an inch thick on their faces - singing and dancing for us (and doing this for 10 nights straight)
at least we understood the purpose of the fireworks :)
