in case it's not easily readable, "fierce's pear. nachos!"

chicago: tuesday

we start the day at cloud gate.  (yes, again)
it's so cool, we keep being drawn back to it.

fierce plays patty-cake with himself

then we take the walkway to the art institute

we take a tour with a longtime docent whose just learned about group of seven last year!
crazy, no?

we see lots of famous impressionist works and it's shocking that they allow cameras.  when did that rule change?

wish we could stay longer, but there's only enough time for (normal) pizza before we head to the Book of Mormon (awesome show!!!!)

chicago: monday

we visit lincolnpark zoo, go shoe shopping (great find thanks to the hostel reccommendation) and then have a spot of lunch at the original Uno's - another chicago 'have-to'

chicago deep dish is like a casserole dish with the cheese on the bottom, and the tomato sauce and whatever on top.  once again - too much cheese, and the crust (base?) is biscuit-like.
i've got to say: i'm not a fan of deep dish or thin crust chicago style pizza

then we have our wendella architectural boat tour - the guy telling the stories reminds me alot of dad, and he's great with the details and the backstories

after the tour, we take a break at the hostel, head to threadless to see the only 'real' store they have (not much selection though - it turns out that on-line is the way to go) and then eat at flub-a-dub where they out you on the 'wall of shame' if you ask for ketchup on your hotdog
i have a bite or two of fierce's becasue i'm saving myself: we go back to the magnificent mileso i can devour another ghiredelli's sundae

chicago: sunday

millineum park is awesome.
there's the cloud gate of course, but also these interactive sculptures

outside the art institute, the trees have lost their blossoms and it's so pretty

we head back to magnificent mile, visit 'candyality' where fierce gets toxic candy and we see dresses and shoes furniture made of candy.
that inspires us visit ghiridelli's for yum-yum sundaes before we go see Henry VIII (and a fabulous pre-educational-show that describes the context of the play.  truly an amazing theatre company!)
canoe sculpture in front of navy pier

the theatre is a navy pier, so we get some of that famous Garrett popcorn - cheese and caramel - a chicago specialty.
fierce likes it, but i think the caramel has an acrid, burn aftertaste and can't imagine why anyone thought to match cheese with sweet.  yuck.
we also do the 'maze' at the pier and have a pretty fun time in the 'time freak'

after some down time at the hostel, we visit the buckingham fountain for the hourly 'show'

(yeah, it think it qualifies - there's water and changing lights and music)

and then grab some dinner at 5 Guys
