Our last full day in the city allows us to revisit our favorite spots. We look at handmade jewelry and enjoy fresh fruit at the farmer's market at the vieux port. Since the rain holds off, we drop our plans to visit the Museum of Civilization, and walk out past la porte de St. Jean (we can tell the federal goverment paid for that restoration because, leaving the old city, the stone face is imprinted with the words St. John's Gate - the first time we've seen english on the face of a building). And after so many days, and so many street performances, we finally see a repeat performance - how many different acts are begging to go on the streets of vieux Quebec?
We sample gelato - well not all of us; some are lured into slushies, and we visit a chocolate museum where we sample different cacaos and watch them put the centres in fancy chocolates. After one last visit to our fav park, parc de l'esplanade, we try (in vain) to find the splashpad I saw coming into the city. Turns out it's Battlefield park, but it's shut on Mondays, so the kids just play on the equipment. We pick out which pastries we'll be buying tomorrow as our take-home treat, pack as best we can and, while the children are in bed, I sneak out one last time to Chez Ashton for my frites sauce.
you can travel through the city on the cobblestone roads, or around the perimeter using the old fortifications, towers and gates. both have their charms, but this way doesn't tempt our pocketbooks
